ÇELIKER GROUP, a company renowned for its successful construction projects, is actively investing in the development of Uzbekistan. The company's founder, Emrah ÇELIKER, shares his insights on the key stages of establishing a business in the country, the importance of innovation in construction, the significance of high-quality housing and infrastructure, and the potential benefits of the active inflow of investments for Uzbekistan's future.

Hill

Why did you choose Uzbekistan as a focal point for ÇELIKER GROUP's investments?

E. Ç.

ÇELIKER GROUP began its operations in Turkey in 2010. After successfully completing several projects in Tajikistan, we decided in 2017 to invest in Uzbekistan to contribute to the country's new mission proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Hill

What do you consider to be ÇELIKER GROUP's core mission?

E. Ç.

It is essential for us to provide people with comfortable and safe housing where they can enjoy life. The primary goal of ÇELIKER GROUP is to offer clients reliable and well-designed living spaces and infrastructure solutions following extensive renovations. Guided by the principles of sustainable development, we strive to create a privileged commercial organization with a strong corporate structure that represents the interests of our clients.

Hill

How would you describe the rapid development currently underway in Tashkent?

E. Ç.

Uzbekistan has long been distant from investments and is now actively catching up in terms of innovative development. In this new era, swift actions were necessary. The country has successfully tackled this challenge by renewing and modernizing both its infrastructure and architectural projects, which has attracted the attention of local and international investors.

Hill

Could you share details about one of your most unique upcoming projects?

E. Ç.

While I cannot disclose all the details yet, we are soon going to introduce a project that will reflect Uzbekistan's national values while offering a high level of comfort. This project will become one of the symbolic representations of the country, and we are working on concepts that have not been previously implemented in Uzbekistan.

Hill

Reflecting on your first international project, what challenges did you encounter?

E. Ç.

In Turkey, our systems were established, and we didn't encounter significant difficulties. However, during our first overseas project, it became clear that we needed colleagues who were well-versed in their local region and could adapt to our system. Since then, we have been training local specialists for various tasks. Investing in people is a crucial aspect of our approach.

Hill

In your view, what qualities are essential for a successful builder and developer? Are there distinct differences?

E. Ç.

A contractor should complete a project with an innovative approach and relevant experience while minimizing costs. In the construction industry, it is vital to offer buildings that meet the growing demand for comfort, combining modern architecture with traditional elements. Additionally, establishing a financial structure that makes projects more attractive is essential.

Hill

If you were to choose between investing in the stock market, real estate, or education, which would you prioritize and why?

E. Ç.

Education always comes first, but it is also important to choose the right timing and utilize a diverse range of investment tools. Staying in one area is always a risk. The main rule of investing is not to use more than is truly necessary; otherwise, investments made with high hopes may lead to disappointment.

Hill

As Tashkent expands in tourism and healthcare, could you share some of ÇELIKER GROUP's recent projects in these areas?

E. Ç.

This year, we are completing the Sino-Med hospital, which has 218 beds, operating rooms, and maternity wards. We are also continuing work on the Double Tree by Hilton and Aloft by Marriott, with plans to finish both projects by the end of 2025. Some of our subsidiaries are successfully working on Hilton and InterContinental hotel projects.

Hill

What distinguishes the new hospital ÇELIKER GROUP is building in Tashkent? Will it be aligned with any global brands?

E. Ç.

This project is a private investor initiative, so the Ministry of Health is not our partner. The building will cover an area of 22,500 square meters, featuring 11 operating rooms and intensive care units. It will accommodate 178 patients, some of whom will have private rooms equipped with toilets and showers for accompanying persons.

Hill

How do you feel about the challenges of focusing on a single city or country, which can sometimes lead to repetitive projects?

E. Ç.

Since our company's inception, we have operated across three continents and in four countries, allowing us to gain diverse perspectives. While we are currently focused on Uzbekistan, we continue to implement projects in Turkey, Tajikistan, and Ghana. Limiting ourselves to one region can sometimes result in missing out on new ideas.

Hill

What is your perspective on the recent urban renovation initiatives in Tashkent? Are there plans for ÇELIKER GROUP to participate?

E. Ç.

We are closely monitoring interesting projects in Tashkent's new districts. This is a positive initiative for improving the existing center, and projects in the heart of the city have the potential to transform its appearance. Updating infrastructure is a vital step in meeting the needs of the population.

Do you believe builders and developers play a role in changing the world?

E. Ç.

This is a complex question. However, one can argue that construction is a tool for creating more reliable and comfortable living conditions.

Hill

Would you ever step away from a project if it conflicted with your brand's values?

E. Ç.

Our primary conditions are quality and adherence to legal obligations. These aspects are our red line. We do not engage in projects that violate these principles.

Hill

Beyond capital, what do you think is essential to successfully establish a construction company?

E. Ç.

Experience and a strong team are essential. You must oversee every detail; otherwise, the work can spiral out of control. Establishing a balance between cost and demand is crucial to avoid future problems.

Hill

What are some of the new technologies ÇELIKER GROUP is incorporating in its projects?

E. Ç.

We implement smart and eco-friendly technologies. For instance, in the Nur project, we will obtain a green building certification, which minimizes environmental pollution and maximizes comfort. Automated systems also play a significant role in ensuring comfort.

Hill

What is your take on the notion that "everything not explicitly prohibited is allowed"?

E. Ç.

What is legal is not always right. Our priority is the maximum benefit for people, taking into account the rights of both investors and end consumers.

Hill

How has ÇELIKER GROUP earned the trust of Uzbekistan's market?

E. Ç.

Our presence in significant projects in Tashkent reflects the trust placed in our company. To earn that trust, it is important to adhere to the values we have discussed.

Hill

How long have you been actively working in Tashkent?

E. Ç.

Since 2017, I have been moving between Tashkent and Turkey, but I spend most of my time here.

Hill

What aspects of Uzbekistan resonate with you personally?

E. Ç.

I feel at home here because the culture is similar to my own. The people are friendly and respectful, and the local cuisine is incredibly delicious.

Hill

How has your family contributed to your professional success?

E. Ç.

The moral support from my family has always been vital for me. I strive to maintain a balance between work and family.

Hill

How do you usually spend your free time when you have it?

E. Ç.

I wish I had more free time, but I usually use it for personal development. Our company motto is: once you finish one project, immediately start the next.

Hill

What advice would you give to young families striving for career success?

E. Ç.

It's essential to start living independently early, learn how to earn and spend money wisely, and invest. Even if things are going well in business, it doesn't guarantee stability. In a family, mutual respect should be the main value.

Hill

What does it mean to you to be the "head of the family"?

E. Ç.

It is someone who protects, nurtures, and provides comfort for the family.

Hill

Finally, what do you find most uplifting?

E. Ç.

For me, it's prayer and serving others, although everyone has their own methods.
