Service. Reliability. Trust: Asakabank Shapes the Future of Premium Banking

Asakabank has long established itself in Uzbekistan as a trusted partner for businesses. Today, the bank is taking a new step forward — entering the market of premium retail banking with products tailored for affluent clients. At the centre of this new direction is the Mastercard World Elite Veneer card. HILL spoke with Djafar Saidov, Managing Director of Asakabank, and Denis Filippov, General Manager of Mastercard in Uzbekistan.
This year Asakabank celebrates its 30th anniversary. How do you sum up three decades of work?
For thirty years, Asakabank has held a leading position in Uzbekistan’s financial market. Over this period, we have become a reliable partner for a wide range of economic players — from major enterprises to individual clients. Our mission is to meet the needs of our clients — regardless of their field of activity or social status. We pay particular attention to service excellence, combining reliability with a flexible, personalized approach. Our guiding principle is simple: “The bank works for the client”. It has been the cornerstone of Asakabank’s trust and lasting success. Today, in terms of capitalization, asset growth, and profitability, we confidently rank among the country’s leading banks.
Fitch Ratings recently upgraded Asakabank’s rating. What does this mean for your clients?
It’s a testament to our stability and reliability. The rating upgrade allows us to access lower-cost funding on international markets, allowing us to offer clients more competitive loans and innovative products. For entrepreneurs, this translates into expanded opportunities in international trade, including trade finance and support for export–import operations.
What new opportunities does this rating open for developing B2C services?
Primarily, it allows us to attract international investment, which expands our retail product portfolio. We are actively developing mortgage and consumer lending, fintech solutions, and online acquiring. The improved rating also facilitates cooperation with international payment systems and fintech companies, further strengthening customer trust.
Do you plan to expand your B2C product line for premium clients?
Yes. Our next step is to open a new premium office — a dedicated space where clients can enjoy services in an atmosphere of comfort, with personal attention and access to exclusive financial products.
Are there special conditions for entrepreneurs who work with the bank both as businesses and as private clients?
Absolutely. We understand that entrepreneurs value integrated solutions. That’s why we offer special packages combining business services with premium personal products — providing a seamless and highly convenient experience for clients.
How have digital technologies contributed to Asakabank’s service transformation?
Digital technologies have played a key role in transforming Asakabank’s services, greatly enhancing both the quality and speed of customer experience. By introducing modern digital solutions, we’ve made access to banking products faster and more convenient, minimizing the need for in-branch visits. A major focus of this transformation is the card business. Today, clients can order and receive their cards directly through the mobile app — a seamless and time-saving experience. The bank also operates its own processing system, ensuring high transaction speed and reliable payment services. In the near future, Asakabank will introduce a new product that redefines payment instruments — turning them into a true element of lifestyle.
Asakabank also offers exclusive mortgage programs. What makes them special?
We recently signed a partnership with NRG and launched a flexible mortgage solution developed by our team of young specialists. It integrates the best practices of our bank and offers clients a seamless, transparent journey — from property selection to finalization — with predictable timelines and straightforward procedures.
How would you assess the development of the partnership between Mastercard and Asakabank, and what role has the launch of premium cards played in its evolution?
Over the past two decades, our partnership has evolved from basic cards to premium products designed for clients with high expectations of service quality and global opportunities. In 2023, Asakabank introduced the Mastercard World Black Edition, and in 2025 expanded the line with the Mastercard World Elite — a product offering access to world-class privileges such as LoungeKey business lounges, Fast Track services, roaming in over 200 countries, complimentary internet traffic via the FlexiRoam eSIM service, travel insurance, and exclusive offers worldwide. Today, premium cards are a must-have for those who value their time and seek to make the most of every journey. The launch of World Elite reflects the bank’s strategic commitment to developing the premium segment and strengthening its position in customer service and digital solutions.
Uzbekistan is witnessing a growing interest in premium banking. In your opinion, how is the very notion of luxury and status evolving in the financial sphere today?
Luxury in the financial sector is taking on new forms. Increasingly, clients perceive premium banking not as a set of external attributes, but as comfort, personalization, stability, and memorable experiences. Status today is not merely about holding a premium card — it’s about access to an ecosystem where the client feels confidence, security, and respect. Modern premium banking is about the ability to manage one’s finances from anywhere in the world while enjoying a level of service that truly makes life easier. Status has evolved from display to experience, from the external to the internal — and more and more clients in Uzbekistan are choosing exactly this path.
Mastercard is actively developing digital solutions. Which innovations and technologies do you consider key for the further growth of the payment market in Uzbekistan?
The main focus remains on the Digital First approach — where the customer’s interaction with the bank revolves around their mobile device. The card is issued instantly, and its details are available only in the app, enhancing both convenience and security. In Uzbekistan, Asakabank is the only bank that has received this certification. The growth of the market is being driven by tokenization technologies, digital identification, and personalized offers. Mastercard works closely with banks and government institutions within the “Digital Nation” initiative, advancing fintech, e-commerce, and mobile payment solutions. This will make digital products more secure, flexible, and accessible for users across the country.
What makes the Mastercard World Elite Veneer card unique compared to other premium products?
The card is made of metal and designed for everyday convenience, supporting contactless payments. It represents Mastercard’s flagship premium product and comes with a suite of exclusive privileges — from advanced financial solutions to lifestyle services and telemedicine. Our goal was not merely to create a payment tool, but to make it an integral part of the client’s premium lifestyle.
What exclusive benefits does the cardholder receive in Uzbekistan and abroad?
Mastercard World Elite Veneer offers a truly global service, granting access to premium experiences around the world. Cardholders enjoy unlimited entry to over 1,600 airport lounges and Fast Track services, including the special privilege of accessing the Mastercard Lounge at Tashkent International Airport. They also receive 3 GB of complimentary mobile internet during travel (valid for 15 days per year), insurance coverage up to $1.5 million for themselves and their family, up to 20% cashback on international purchases, and 30% off MyTaxi rides. The card includes premium airport transfers in Tashkent, safe deposit box access at Asakabank, telemedicine consultations, and a personal manager. Holders enjoy investment advisory services, priority service at all branches, and exclusive discounts at top restaurants in Tashkent, as well as unique offers both in Uzbekistan and globally. Our focus is on exclusivity and comprehensiveness — the card becomes a tool not just for managing finances, but for managing a lifestyle.
In your opinion, who will benefit most from this product — businesspeople, travelers, or investors?
We designed a product that unites financial, investment, and lifestyle opportunities. Business owners value the personalized solutions and “one-call” service. Travelers appreciate comfort on the go, fast-track airport access, and global insurance. Investors benefit from advisory support and financial instruments.
Your motto is “Driver of Success!”. How does it manifest in working with premium clients?
For us, it’s not just a slogan but a philosophy. We strive to be a reliable partner in helping clients achieve their goals — offering personalized service, tailored financial solutions, and a premium experience that reflects their status. It’s about comfort, reliability, and innovation. We want every Asakabank client to feel that their bank is helping them reach new heights — in business and in life.
