Koç Construction is a major development company in Uzbekistan, known for its significant projects, exemplary buildings, and construction endeavors in Tashkent. We spoke with Yusuf Sarıkoc, chairman of the board of directors of Koç Construction, about their latest venture, Piramit Global, which includes Piramit Tower, Piramit Mall, and Piramit Residence.

HILL: Tell us about Koc Construction and your journey in Uzbekistan.

Y. S.: Koc Construction, founded in 1969 in Turkey, is a successful and professional construction company. Our journey began with electrical contracting and evolved to include mechanical contracting and main contractor roles. Under second-generation management, we have advanced our 11 sisters companies by diversifying our specialization into various fields. Our core principle is timely and successful delivery of work, which has made us one of the strongest companies in Uzbekistan. Our current project, Piramit Global, reflects our commitment to quality, speed, and dedicated work, making it one of the new, modern faces of the city.

HILL: What distinguishes your projects from your peers?

Y. S.: Our first investment in Uzbekistan aimed to touch more people by being both a developer and a contractor. We analyzed the needs and conditions of the area to create the most efficient, useful, and comfortable structures. This approach led to the creation of Piramit Mall, Piramit Tower, and Piramit Residence, offering a 360-degree life experience with shopping, residential, and workspaces all integrated. Our unique feature is combining existing culture and modernism, providing facilities that reflect street culture while offering modern amenities.

HILL: Why the name Pyramid?

Y. S.: Inspired by the Egyptian Pyramids, our structure has a triple function, symbolizing its significance in the city. We aimed to create a landmark with symbolic meaning, and it seems we've succeeded, as Piramit Tower and Piramit Mall are now recognized as city symbols.

Our aim is to provide leading projects that showcase exemplary technology and engineering work, contributing to construction, development, and employment in Uzbekistan.

HILL: What do you think about the criticism regarding Tashkent's dustiness due to active construction?

Y. S.: Tashkent is known for its green areas and modern architecture. We strive to protect this city by incorporating green spaces, respecting the environment, and focusing on sustainable construction practices. Our projects include 70% green areas, bridges, hospitals, and parks, and we are committed to reducing air pollution through green projects and low-waste construction.

HILL: What are the core values of Koç Construction, and what is the secret to its success?

Y. S.: Since 2018, Koç Construction, part of the KOÇ GROUP, has operated in 10 countries across 3 continents. Our success is rooted in four core principles: quality management, optimal timing, value engineering, and worker health and safety. By leveraging world-standard technologies and norms, we seamlessly blend the right projects with flawless designs. Our company's strength lies in our large, dedicated family of expert employees, who share a passion for our work and our country.
